INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING

Cece Woods has built her reputation as a fearless investigative journalist by pursuing the stories that mainstream media often overlooks, or avoids altogether. Her reporting is defined by a relentless commitment to truth, even when it exposes corruption, contradicts official narratives, or challenges powerful institutions. Where others stop at the surface, Woods digs deeper, uncovering testimony, evidence, and records that shift the public’s understanding of critical events.

Founded in 2020, The Current Report quickly developed a strong reputation for aggressive independent investigative journalism focused on government accountability, law enforcement, political corruption, and major public safety failures across Los Angeles County and California. Its reporting has covered everything from the Malibu Creek State Park shootings and catastrophic wildfire disasters to LASD internal controversies, LA Metro corruption allegations, and high-level political investigations, consistently breaking stories and exposing information often overlooked or ignored by mainstream media outlets. The publication gained national attention during its investigation into corruption allegations surrounding former L.A. Metro CEO Phillip Washington, contributing to the growing scrutiny that ultimately preceded the withdrawal of President Biden’s nominee to lead the FAA.

In addition to founding The Current Report, Woods contributed investigative reporting and commentary to The Epoch Times, where her work focused heavily on LASD controversies, Los Angeles County politics, public safety issues, and the policies of former District Attorney George Gascón. Her reporting examined the political and institutional conflicts shaping law enforcement and criminal justice in Los Angeles County, helping build her reputation for aggressive investigative coverage that challenged official narratives and brought increased public attention to issues impacting both deputies and local communities.

Through The Local Malibu, Woods became one of the most recognized independent journalists covering Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains region, building a large audience through aggressive on-the-ground reporting focused on government accountability, public safety, environmental issues, and disaster response. Her reporting exposed critical inconsistencies in the Malibu Creek State Park shootings investigation, documented government and evacuation failures during the Woolsey and Palisades fires, and provided real-time coverage during emergencies when many mainstream outlets failed to capture the full scope of events impacting the community.

FEARLESS, FACT-BASED REPORTING

Woods’ first foray into reporting began with the high-profile and controversial Malibu Lagoon Restoration project in 2011. From there, she immersed herself in Malibu politics, environmental activism, and local government issues. In 2018, Woods exposed the two-year law enforcement cover-up surrounding the Malibu Creek State Park shootings, breaking the story that forced accountability and finally brought key facts to light. Later that same year, during the catastrophic Woolsey Fire, she delivered some of the most comprehensive local coverage available as mainstream outlets failed to capture the full scope of the government failures and negligence surrounding the disaster. Her reporting during the fire reached more than one million people across social media platforms. Woods later expanded her investigative reporting into regional politics and public corruption through The Current Report and her personal platform CeceWoods.com . Since 2020, she has been one of the only journalists consistently reporting on corruption allegations involving former L.A. Metro CEO Phillip Washington. Working alongside political corruption experts, watchdog organizations, and sources in Washington D.C., her reporting became part of the growing scrutiny surrounding Washington’s nomination to head the FAA, which ultimately ended with his withdrawal from consideration. Most recently, Woods’ high-profile coverage of the Palisades Fire generated more than 20 million views across her social media platforms, further cementing her reputation as a trusted independent journalist covering major disasters, government failures, and political corruption when traditional media outlets either lagged behind or failed to fully investigate the story.
